What's the Difference Between Spur Planetary Reducer and Helical Planetary Reducer

Date:2024-09-02

Both spur planetary reducers and helical planetary reducers are composed of sun gears, planetary gears and internal ring gears.Following are the main differences between spur planetary reducer and helical planetary reducer.
spur helical planetary reducer

1. Gear shape and meshing method
Spur Planetary Reducer
Gear shape: The tooth shape of a straight tooth is a straight line shape along the axial direction of the gear.
Meshing method: When the spur gear is meshed, the tooth surface is in instantaneous contact along the entire tooth width at the same time, which is easy to produce shock and vibration.
Helical Planetary Reducer
Gear shape: The tooth shape of the helical tooth is at a certain angle to the gear axis, which is spiral-shaped.
Meshing method: When the helical gear is meshed, it is gradually transitioning from one end to the other, the contact line is longer, and the degree of overlap is large, so that the transmission is more stable, and the impact and noise are relatively small.
2. the carrying capacity
Spur Planetary Reducer:
Due to the greater impact of the straight tooth mesh, its load-bearing capacity is relatively weak. When subjected to large loads, tooth flank wear and fatigue damage are susceptible.
Helical planetary gearbox:
The meshing of the helical teeth allows it to better distribute the load and improve the load carrying capacity of the gear. At the same time, due to the longer contact wires, there is less pressure per unit area, which also helps to extend the service life of the gears.
3. Transmission efficiency
Spur Planetary Reducer:
The transmission efficiency is relatively low. The friction loss during the meshing of the straight teeth is large, especially when running at high speed, which is easy to generate heat and reduce the transmission efficiency.
Helical planetary gearbox:
The transmission efficiency is high. The meshing process of helical teeth is more stable, the friction loss is smaller, and the power can be better transmitted and the transmission efficiency can be improved.
4. The noise level
Spur Planetary Reducer:
The noise generated during operation is large. The instantaneous impact of the straight tooth meshing can lead to large vibrations and noise, especially in the case of high-speed operation and large load changes, and the noise problem is more prominent.
Helical planetary gearbox:
The noise level is relatively low. The smooth engagement of the helical teeth and the long contact line reduce shock and vibration, which reduces noise generation.
5. The price cost
Spur Planetary Reducer
Generally speaking, the manufacturing cost of spur planetary gear reducers is relatively low. The processing technology of spur gears is relatively simple, and the production efficiency is high, so the price is relatively cheap.
Helical Planetary Reducer
The manufacturing cost of helical planetary reducers is higher. The processing of helical gears requires more complex processes and equipment, and it is difficult to produce, so the price is usually higher than that of spur planetary gearboxes.
